- Fathering to Prisoners and Fathering from
Prison
•
The Department of Correctional Services has
estimated that over 400 000 children under
age 18 have a parent who is in prison, jail, on
probation, or on parole. Given these numbers,
it is important to understand how children and
their caregivers are affected by the criminal
activity of a parent and their subsequent
arrest, incarceration, and release.
•
Additionally, it is important to know which
services and assistance might be available to
those under criminal justice supervision to
help them be better parents and to return
successfully to the community. FFSA is in the
process of developing and registering a
program that helps paroled and freed men to
reintegrate with their communities and more
importantly, their families.
- International Men's Day
•
A few the Fatherhood Foundation of SA
instituted the inaugural Dad of the Year
national awards. it was our way of celebrating
International Mens Day and was held in
partnership with the Department of Social
Development Gauteng.
•
Since 1999 the methods of commemorating
International Men's Day have included public
seminars, classroom activities at schools, radio
and television programs, Church observances,
peaceful gatherings and marches, awards
ceremonies, and art displays. International
Men's Day has the potential to become the
global medium to heal our world.
•
The concept and themes of IMD are designed
to give hope to the depressed, faith to the
lonely, comfort to the broken-hearted,
transcend barriers, eliminate stereotypes and
create a more caring humanity
